I’m so excited that I finally get to show you around the North Shore. I’ve spent the past 4 weeks shooting 4 different videos about the top neighbourhoods in Downtown, the Eastside, and, Westside of Vancouver and now we get to explore North Vancouver, where I live. If you’ve seen the video series My 30 Favourite Places In North Vancouver, you know how much I love it. North Vancouver is home to the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver and has 35 sub-areas. We’re focusing on the top 5.
All right, let’s kick things off with our #5 neighbourhood, Central Lonsdale. Central Lonsdale is bordered by Moody and Larson Streets E/W and Keith road and the Upper Levels Hwy N/S. This is a fantastic neighbourhood to live in. I live here. It is home to things like Victoria Park and the Cenotaph which is an important landmark and green space for North Shore residents. It is also home to the Centennial Theatre, Lionsgate Hospital, Mahon Park and of course the Green Necklace. An urban greenway forming a 7.5km scenic loop around the City centre. It links historic parks and buildings, public spaces and commercial areas. It is also just a short stroll down the hill to our #4 neighbourhood which is…
Lower Lonsdale. Lower Lonsdale is bordered by Bewicke and Moody streets E/W and Keith Road and the Burrard Inlet N/S. This hip, vibrant, and gorgeous area offers you detached, condo and townhome living with stunning views of the water and City of Vancouver. Locals simply call it LoLo. The recently opened Shipyards is yet another major draw for both locals and tourists to the area. I shot a video of the Shipyards Grand Opening earlier this summer which you can find here. Lonsdale Quay is located at the foot of Lower Lonsdale and as such is a magnet for tourists staying in downtown Vancouver who not only want to experience the Seabus ride but to explore the LoLo area as well. Incredible restaurants, breweries and other amenities make this a hot and sought after spot to live. Almost half a dozen of my 30 favourite places in North Vancouver was here in Lower Lonsdale.
Our #3 neighbourhood is Canyon Heights. Located just below Grouse Woods and Grouse Mountain this is a sought after neighbourhood for families looking for higher-end and luxury home options and who want to live in this catchment area for the Canyon Heights Elementary and Handsworth Secondary schools. It is also home to the Capilano River Regional Park and Capilano Salmon Hatchery. Serene neighbourhoods nestled amongst the forest with access to many hiking trails make this a family-friendly and highly desirable place to live. Of course, the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge is close by as well.
Our #2 neighbourhood is Lynn Valley. Lynn Valley is home to the iconic Lynn Canyon Suspension bridge. It is the free alternative to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Lynn Valley has an amazing natural setting and strong community spirit. It’s the kind of community where you know many of your neighbours and at its heart is the Lynn Valley Centre and the soon to be completed Residences In Lynn Valley. A master-planned community by Nat Bosa and Bosa Development and Lynn valley’s 1st master-planned community. The Black Bear Pub, an institution here in Lynn Valley and the Suspension bridge were both on my 30 favourite places list.
And, our #1 neighbourhood is Edgemont. This neighbourhood has a small-town charm and quaintness in Edgemont Village, which is the heart of this community. This is the most sought after area in North Vancouver for those families looking for luxury home options. Another 2 of my 30 favourite places can be found here as well. They are Bjorn Bar bakery and La Galleria Fine Foods. It is also home to the Delbrook Community Centre. A stunning new facility offering everything from swimming to squash. And, the world-famous Capilano Suspension Bridge sits right on its western border. If you’ve never been there in the winter when the entire park is lit up with Christmas lights, put it on your to-do list this winter. If you’d rather live in North Vancouver than West Vancouver and you want a luxury home, check out Edgemont.
